Gemotions

The scent of brewing coffee and the hum of the computers filled the air as David strode into the department. Today was the day to get feedback on his most recent chapter, and he felt a jolt of exhilaration as he prepared his notes. He felt as though he could run a marathon. He was ready to receive any criticism, ready to make any adjustments. He was confident and overflowing with ideas. The air seemed to vibrate with anticipation.

He found his advisor, Professor Bellweather, seated at his desk, his face strained. "David, please, come in," he said, sighing. "I'm leaving. I'm accepting a position in the private sector." The words struck him like a physical blow. The excitement within him drained away in an instant.
