“Good morning!” Chloe announced, a voice loud enough to echo in the usually hushed office. She didn’t mean to be so loud, but the words just poured out. Her heart was beating fast.

She was suddenly compelled to reorganize the office supplies, sorting paperclips by size and color-coding sticky notes. The mundane tasks felt like a fun game.

She caught a glimpse of her reflection in the glass door. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes wide with something close to exhilaration.

She couldn't stop thinking about the promotion. She felt an almost overwhelming desire to succeed, to reach for the prize.
