He woke with the sense of anticipation of a child, bounding out of bed and throwing open the curtains. He was finally getting his dream house in order. He had spent hours unpacking, filling the shelves with books, and the kitchen with his favorite foods. He grinned, feeling like he had the world at his fingertips. He felt content, complete.

A visit from a stranger, a local journalist. The house… it had a dark past. A murder, a tragedy. The color drained from the world. His hands felt cold, his legs weak. The shelves, the books, the food – all suddenly felt tainted. He just wanted to go back to bed.
