The morning sun, usually a nuisance, felt like a warm embrace as Eleanor skipped down the hallway. A symphony of birdsong cascaded through the open window, urging her towards the day. She hummed a nonsensical tune as she reached for her husband, George's, favorite mug. He’d be so surprised when she brought him breakfast in bed.

She felt a giddy impulse to rearrange the silverware, polishing each piece until it gleamed. Then, the glint of a small, manila envelope caught her eye, tucked beneath a stack of unpaid bills. It was addressed to George, hand-written in a familiar, yet somewhat unfamiliar, elegant script. Her breath hitched.

Curiosity, a mischievous sprite, danced within her. She weighed the envelope in her hand, her fingertips tracing the edges. The paper felt thick and important. With a mischievous grin, she broke the seal. Inside, a bank statement. The sum listed brought a gasp to her lips, followed by a rush of heat and a wide, involuntary smile. This was going to be interesting.
