Eliza awoke with a spring in her step, the birdsong outside her window filling her with an unexplainable sense of lightness. She felt as though she could conquer the world. She stretched, then threw open her window to the clear blue sky.

Across the street, her neighbor, Mr. Gable, was carefully placing a velvet rope across his driveway. He was always so careful and guarded, she'd never thought much about him.

Today, a string of luxury cars lined the street, reflecting the bright sunlight. She watched as a group of people, dressed impeccably, stepped out of one of the cars.

Eliza hurried outside, her heart thrumming with a newfound curiosity.

Mr. Gable saw her, his eyes twinkling. He gave a small wave. "Morning, Eliza! Ready for a party?"
