Sunlight hammered down on Amelia’s back as she dug. The shovel bit into the earth with satisfying thunks, sweat beading on her forehead and tracing lazy rivers down her temples. She hummed a wordless tune, her energy practically bubbling out of her. Finding the time capsule was a complete accident, a buried metal box gleaming in the dirt. It wasn’t on any map, didn’t fit into any memory she had. She grinned, a wide, unstoppable grin. Curiosity, a fizzy sensation, zipped through her chest.

Amelia brushed off the dirt, excited to see what secrets lay within.
