The air crackled with a sort of effervescent quality, a lightness that buoyed him. He found himself grinning at the birds outside the window, watching them dip and soar. Alex bounded into the kitchen, already dressed and ready to go. Sarah was still asleep in the bedroom, and he considered waking her with a song. Instead, he made his way into her office, where the sun hit just right. Her planner was open on her desk, and it looked like there was something written on a piece of paper sticking out the side. He pulled it out, and the words practically jumped off the page at him.
