Gemotions

The sunlight seemed to dim as Daniel looked at the drawing. His stomach twisted. The cartoonish portrayal of the creature from his youth – a being he'd known as Whisper – was unmistakable. It stared out from the paper with that same unsettling, knowing gaze. Daniel felt a coldness spread through him, a sensation akin to ice water being poured down his spine.

He felt the need to inspect the perimeter, so he excused himself from the dinner table. He stood by the back door, watching the shadows lengthen across the garden, his hands clenched into fists. He watched the drawn figure carefully.

"Who's that, Emma?" His voice was low, careful. He had to be careful. He could not fail. He’d do anything to keep his family safe.

His gaze never left the canvas. He was on guard, certain that something was amiss.
