The afternoon sun cast long shadows as Richard meticulously walked the line of his property. He felt the familiar weight of anxiety settle in his stomach. The fence was almost complete. It was a physical barrier, yes, but in his mind it represented far more.

He had always needed to control the things around him. Now, he was losing control.

He ran his hand along the smooth wood of the fence, his fingers tracing the grain. His jaw tightened. He had to be prepared for anything. He walked slowly, carefully, checking every inch, making sure no one could get the upper hand.
