"You're going to try pitching." The words hung in the air, heavy with implication. Sarah swallowed, her throat suddenly dry. She was the team's catcher, the anchor, the one who saw everything. Now, she was supposed to stand on the mound, exposed, vulnerable. She’d spent her life behind the plate. She’d made it her sanctuary.

She meticulously surveyed the field from the mound, searching for any sign of weakness. Her eyes tracked the movements of the batter, gauging his stance, assessing his intent. Each pitch felt like a test, a judgment. Her hands sweated inside her glove. She took a deep breath, trying to slow the racing pulse in her chest.

The first batter stepped up to the plate, and Sarah forced herself to focus, her senses sharpened. She threw a fast ball, watching its flight with an intensity she didn't know she possessed. The crack of the bat was a physical shock, and Sarah found herself poised, ready to pounce.
