Gemotions

The sun beat down on the track as Alex waited. He was a sprinter, and now the coach told him he was to be a long-distance runner. He wasn’t sure he could do it. His body tingled with nervous energy, and he struggled to remain still.

He watched the long-distance runners, assessing their style, studying their pace. He felt a need to understand, to anticipate, to be ready for anything. He tested his muscles, and he prepared to pace himself, to conserve energy.

He heard the gun, and his body launched forward, but he held back, pacing himself with the other runners. He watched, waiting. He saw the finish line.
