Gemotions

The hum of the washing machine was a low thrum in the otherwise silent house. The door to the study was closed. He had told her he was working. He’d been working late every night for weeks, his laptop glowing like a second sun in the darkened room. It had filled me with the emotion I was feeling.

I crept to the door, my hand outstretched. I paused. The feeling in the pit of my stomach was almost painful. The door would not open. The study had a secret. The secret was the phone calls. I reached for the handle.
