The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as James carefully unpacked the box. He’d expected to find a few childhood mementos, some forgotten toys, perhaps a stray photograph or two. But the contents of this box were far more extensive. They contained a comprehensive archive of his school years: every essay, every drawing, every report card neatly filed.

He touched a math test, his fingers tracing the faint pencil marks. He felt a creeping discomfort, a sense of being scrutinized. He thought of his mother, her gentle smile, her soft voice. He scanned the room, his eyes moving from object to object. The silence of the room was now deafening. A wave of unease washed over him, a pressure he couldn't quite identify.
