"The Cozy Corner Cafe is closing?" Alex read the sign again, his heart sinking. The words seemed to vibrate in the air. The place was an anchor in his life. He felt the blood drain from his face. This wasn’t fair.

He started visiting the cafe multiple times a day. He’d sit at different tables, observing the flow of customers, the staff's efficiency, the quality of the food. He wanted to understand the reason behind the closure, a reason that he could then... what? He didn’t know.

He became overly attentive to every detail: the amount of sugar the waitress put in his coffee, the consistency of the soup, the way the sunlight hit the old wooden tables. He felt he was the one keeping the place in order. He made sure he greeted every customer, making them aware.
