He felt the familiar knot of anxiety tighten in his stomach as he navigated the maze of tables. The air was thick with the scent of old things and the murmur of conversations. Every shadow seemed to conceal a hidden observer. He was here for one thing, and one thing only. And then he saw it. Sir Reginald, his childhood teddy bear, was propped up on a display of chipped tea cups and chipped plates.

He approached the table slowly, feigning interest in a collection of old coins. He studied the surroundings, aware of the other shoppers, the location of the exit. He felt it was important to notice every detail. He felt as if someone was watching him. He took several deep breaths to try to remain calm.

"How much for the bear?" he asked, attempting to sound indifferent. The seller, a young man with a bored expression, quoted a price. He paid, quickly retrieving the bear, and then moved with a quick and decisive purpose.
