"Hello?" Sarah called out, her voice echoing in the stale air. No response. The attic was a labyrinth of shadows and forgotten things. She had been so excited when she'd bought the house, but now she felt the hairs on the back of her neck rise.

She held the flashlight close, illuminating a trunk that sat in the centre of the space. Her stomach churned as she approached it, the worn leather and tarnished brass hinges hinting at secrets held within. *What if it's something valuable?* she thought, then immediately berated herself for such a naive thought.

Hesitantly, she reached for the latch. Her fingers brushed against cold metal, and a tremor ran through her. It was locked. She'd need to find the key. That small detail had only strengthened her resolve - she would make sure this space was under control.
