He felt it first in the pit of his stomach. A cold, hard knot. David stood across the crowded bar, watching the woman he'd been seeing, Emily, laugh with another man. The man’s arm was casually draped around her shoulders, his touch lingering a beat too long.

He took a slow sip of his beer, the taste suddenly metallic. His palms were slick. He hadn't felt this edgy in years. Every muscle in his body seemed tensed, ready to spring. He scanned the bar, taking note of escape routes, exits, the location of the restroom. He saw the details, the way Emily's laugh sounded when she felt uninhibited and the guy's hair gel.

He started walking towards them, his pace deliberate. As he got closer he could see a familiar watch on the stranger's wrist. The same model as the one Emily had bought *him* for his birthday. His fingers clenched into fists as he approached. "Emily?" he said, his voice clipped.
