The museum felt hushed, oppressive. The air conditioning hummed, a constant, low drone. Liam traced the lines of the sculpture with his finger, trying to focus. He'd agreed to meet Olivia here, a place they both loved. She was late.

He was becoming impatient. He walked around the room, studying the other patrons, the security guards, the shadows in the corners. He felt an intense need to be in control. This was a pattern he recognised, a fear of being manipulated. The knot in his stomach tightened.

He saw her then, standing near a painting, talking to a man. The man was admiring the painting. Liam recognized the man. He was the same man she had been talking to in the park last weekend. Liam had seen the same painting in her apartment, given to her by the man. He walked towards them, his steps measured, a coldness in his eyes.
