Gemotions

He felt a prickling sensation on the back of his neck as he unearthed the letter from the old biography of a famous explorer. A tremor ran down his spine, leaving him instantly alert. He stood in his dimly lit study, the only sound the rhythmic ticking of the grandfather clock. He carefully unfolded the paper, careful not to smudge the faded ink. The words themselves felt like a threat.

He went to the window, pulling back the heavy velvet curtains, peering into the shadows of the street below. He saw nothing out of the ordinary, but his gut churned with unease. Was he being watched? He locked all the doors, double-checking each bolt and latch. He was the only one in the house, but still, he had to be ready for anything.
