He examined the envelope under the harsh fluorescent light of his kitchen. Liam ran a finger along the glued seam, checking for any signs of tampering. He wouldn’t be caught off guard. Every shadow in the room seemed to lengthen, taking on a sinister cast.

He read the invitation three times, each pass more deliberately than the last. The promises of nostalgia felt like a trap, and the names of the organizing committee were a list of potential adversaries. His jaw tightened. He should have known this day would come.
