Gemotions

The invitation crackled in his hands. John's jaw clenched as he read the names of those he knew would attend. He felt a sudden, sharp pang of something unpleasant. A coldness settled into the bones of his chest.

He went through the motions of his day, but his mind was elsewhere, replaying old scenarios. He found himself looking around at his colleagues, wondering if any of them knew about his past.
