He felt his jaw clench, a muscle aching with tension. John, a devoted reader of the philosophical treatises of Dr. Alistair Finch, felt a sense of profound disappointment. Finch, the intellectual hero, had been exposed as a fraud. The world, previously so vibrant, now seemed muted and gray.

He re-read Finch’s work. He started buying all the work Finch may have gotten ideas from. He began to feel a deep need to understand the nuances of the theft. He filled out spreadsheets, comparing notes and making outlines of everything. He barely slept, waking with a start. He realized he was wasting time.

He needed to confront Finch. He would face him.
