The air in the storage unit was stale, thick with the scent of mothballs and unspoken secrets. Liam ran a hand through his hair, a knot of unease tightening in his stomach. His father had always portrayed his parents, Liam's grandparents, as humble farmers who built their lives from scratch.

A photograph of his grandmother, leaning against a luxury yacht, wearing a fur coat, caught his eye. He stared at it, the blood draining from his face. This was so unlike the image painted by his father. This was…something else entirely.

He quickly flipped through the remaining photos, his heart racing. He had to uncover the facts, no matter how uncomfortable. He picked up another picture of his grandfather, shaking hands with a man who had been a local mob boss. Liam felt a cold, hard stone of realization forming inside him.
