"Did you hear?" whispered David, his voice a low rumble. He leaned in, his eyes narrowed, the fluorescent lights reflecting off the sweat beading on his forehead. "They're selling." The rumor had spread like wildfire. David’s gut had clenched as he heard the office gossip, the information sending a rush of adrenaline through him.

He began arriving at the office earlier and leaving later, making sure he saw everything, heard everything. He kept tabs on the comings and goings of the executives, mentally cataloguing their movements. The lunchroom conversations felt like coded messages, each sentence dissected for its hidden significance.

One afternoon, he found a discarded document in the printer room. The document bore the logo of a rival company. He took it home, read it, and re-read it. His hands trembled as he did, and his heart hammered. He knew what he had to do. He went back to the office and destroyed the document, erasing all trace of his findings.
