The shadows in the old mansion seemed to lengthen as Elara stared at the documents. Her brother, Finn, grinned, already making plans for the inherited family business. The papers stated Elara was left the family home. It came with land and a hefty sum of money. She, however, felt a persistent tension in her jaw. The house, she thought, was not what it seemed. The solicitor seemed to rush. He’d barely made it to the last page before he was already collecting his briefcase. He left them in the house, alone. She knew what she must do: go room by room, making her own assessment.
