He saw it, a flicker of color on the screen, nestled between a listing for a two-bedroom condo and a house with a wraparound porch. His breath hitched. It was the place. The place where the wood of the floorboards always creaked at night. The place where his dreams, once vibrant, had withered.

His hands shook as he opened the listing. He focused on the details, the square footage, the number of bedrooms, and the improvements. The photos showed a freshly painted interior, and a manicured lawn. He read the realtor’s flowery prose, then re-read them again. He needed to be meticulous.

He found the listing agent's social media accounts and started to go through them. He examined everything, every post, every like, looking for any clue, any hint. He made a mental note to drive past the property tomorrow, to assess the situation himself, he wouldn't let his guard down.
