The sterile smell of the office did little to soothe him. He shifted uncomfortably in the plush chair, the leather squeaking faintly. *Caroline Hayes, MSW, LCSW.* The name replayed in his head. The same Caroline Hayes who made his life hell for years. He studied the diplomas on the wall, looking for something, anything, to betray her. He had to be careful.

He felt a trickle of sweat run down his spine as the door opened. She looked different, older. Her voice, however, was unmistakable. He forced a smile, but the tension remained. He carefully chose his words, measuring each syllable. He wouldn’t be caught off guard this time.

She began to speak, her tone professional, but he struggled to focus. He was trapped in the past, replaying every insult, every taunt, every cold glance. He kept his gaze fixed on her face, trying to discern any hidden agenda.
