A cold sweat slicked down Liam’s back as he stared at the bank statement. His hands, usually steady from years of carpentry, shook so hard he almost dropped it. He'd been looking for a specific receipt, a necessary document for a client. Instead, hidden within a box of old tax returns, was a password-protected file on his wife, Sarah's, laptop. He knew he shouldn't.

He wrestled with the keyboard, his breath coming in shallow gasps. He entered her birthdate, a lucky number, the name of their dog. Nothing. Finally, in a moment of utter desperation, he tried their anniversary. It worked. The file displayed account balances, details of transactions. It was a deluge of information he wasn't prepared for.

His gut churned. He felt a deep, unsettled unease settling in.
