Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tempest inside Leo. He found the list tucked between the pages of his father’s well-worn copy of *Moby Dick*. His father, a man of routine and measured patience, had written: “Ride a motorcycle across Route 66,” “Learn to bake sourdough bread,” “Visit Machu Picchu.” Leo felt a prickling heat under his skin.

He slammed the book shut, the sound echoing in the silent house. He wouldn't let this be another regret. He immediately started calling motorcycle rentals in Arizona, poring over maps, plotting the perfect route. Days blurred into a whirlwind of activity.

The sourdough bread was next. He devoured online tutorials, meticulously measuring ingredients, his brow furrowed in concentration. The first loaf, a dense, inedible brick, nearly broke him. He started again. And again. Failure was unacceptable. He knew his dad had liked things done right, perfect even.

His sleep became fitful, punctuated by nightmares of unfinished journeys and half-baked promises. Every decision was laced with an urgency he couldn't explain. The thought of letting his father down was unbearable, the pressure relentless.
