A tremor ran through David as he watched the university president walk onto the stage. The air in the auditorium seemed thick, charged. He’d been expecting a lecture, not this… urgency. His hands, usually steady, were now trembling.

The words, when they came, hit him like a physical blow. Closure. The university was shutting its doors. He felt a sharp, stabbing pain in his chest. He straightened in his seat, his gaze darting around the room, assessing the reactions of his peers.

He needed answers. He needed to understand what was happening, why, and what could be done. Immediately after the announcement, he was on his feet, elbowing his way through the stunned crowd. He needed to speak to someone, anyone, who knew more than he did. He wouldn't let this be the end. He wouldn’t allow it.
