“I am becoming a Scientologist,” her sister, Jessica, had declared. The words echoed in her ears. A chill ran down her spine.

She started forwarding Jessica emails from the Church's critics. She would fill up her sister’s mailbox, and then leave voicemails on Jessica’s phone with news articles that called it a cult.

When Jessica began selling all her belongings to pay for courses, the sister secretly reported her as a fraud to the police. That should get her attention. When the officers came, she smiled.
