"Is that… Romanian?" Liam asked, feigning casual interest as he glanced over Clara's shoulder. She had been frantically scribbling in a notebook, muttering under her breath.

Clara stiffened, her posture becoming rigid. "Oh, just some… notes for work," she said, her voice a little too high. Liam had never understood her job. It was deliberately vague.

"Work, huh?" he drawled, leaning back in his chair. He knew the truth. Clara had been utterly dismissive of his family's Romanian roots, always saying it was "too complicated." Now, she had a book out, a dictionary open. The implications were too obvious.

He smiled, a slow, deliberate movement. "You know, the deadline for your project is next week, right?" he said. “Maybe you should get some rest, you work so hard.” He knew her boss was a difficult man. He knew the pressure she was under. He knew everything.
