Gemotions

The envelope, cream-colored and addressed in a feminine script, felt oddly heavy in Liam's hand. Inside, the usual platitudes, no name. His ex, Emily, had done this before. He crumpled the paper, the flimsy feel of it almost an insult. A throbbing pulse started in his temple. He had worked so hard to keep his life separate, his new girlfriend, Lisa, completely removed from the wreckage of his past.

Liam spent the next hour meticulously wiping down every surface in his apartment. He even scrubbed the grout in the bathroom, a task he usually loathed. He'd never let Emily back in. Never. He started a fire in the fireplace, a roaring inferno consuming the discarded mail from the day. He'd find a way to make sure Emily never bothered Lisa either.
