The scent of old paper and dust filled the air as David flipped through the pages. The book: a collection of essays on the art of deception. The irony was not lost on him. He found the letter nestled between two essays on the subtle art of manipulation. The handwriting was hurried, the words a confession of infidelity, addressed to a man’s wife from his mistress.

A humorless smile tugged at his lips. He knew the wife; he'd met her at a party. She’d been kind to him, oblivious to the fact that her husband was the bane of his existence. He folded the letter and put it in his pocket, then carefully put the book on the counter, and walked out of the store.

He would find a way to make sure the wife found the letter. He would find a way.
