The metallic tang of blood filled Amelia’s mouth, though no actual injury existed. It was the feeling, the echo of frustration, that created the taste. She’d found her diary open, a single page dog-eared at the corner. Liam, her roommate, was the only culprit.

He’d been acting particularly chatty lately, unusually interested in her classes and her weekend plans. Now, it made sense. She plastered on a sweet smile when she saw him.

"Liam, hey! I was just wondering, did you need to borrow the stapler?" Amelia asked, her voice sugary sweet. She knew he hated being interrupted when he studied.
