David felt a chill spread through him as he read the email. His entire identity was a fabrication. He was adopted and his parents had never told him. A consuming resentment began to fester. He would take them down.

His parents were devout churchgoers, pillars of the community. They had always preached about the sanctity of family. David began subtly undermining them, making anonymous calls to the church, revealing some of their long held secrets.

He knew how to manipulate people. He'd learned it by observing them for years. He started planting subtle seeds of doubt, a word here, a rumour there.
