She clutched the steaming coffee cup, the heat a small comfort against the icy wind whipping around her. The site was cordoned off with bright orange tape, but she could see the bulldozer’s silhouette looming large against the grey sky. It was finally happening: the end of everything. Everything *they* had, at her expense.

The memory of the countless betrayals fueled the fire inside her. The laughter, the secrets shared within those walls, all things she was left out of. They didn't even *try* to contact her when they sold the house to developers.

She imagined the developer’s shocked face when he finally had the chance to see her “little surprise”. Her lawyer had sent the developers a copy of the deed, which specified that the first house to be built in the neighborhood was to be in her name.

She took another sip of coffee, the warmth spreading through her. They'll have to start again, just like she did.
