The realization hit Mark like a physical blow. His unpublished manuscript, "The Obsidian Mirror," was almost verbatim in the new bestseller by his literary idol, Evelyn Reed. He felt as if the air had been stolen from his lungs. He wanted to scream.

He poured over the manuscript again, cataloging every instance. He discovered Reed was notorious for using ghost writers. He thought of that, and then, he smiled.

Mark knew the ghost writer, a struggling writer named David. He met David for coffee. He offered David an opportunity, a chance to get his work out in the world. He offered to represent David, as his agent. He offered a very lucrative contract. But, he would ask David for something in return.

David would write a new story, in his own style, filled with the same specific elements that were in Mark's story, but, Mark would get the author credit. Mark would get the fame. And Evelyn Reed would be exposed.
