The betrayal felt like a shard of ice piercing Eleanor's soul. Her novel, "The Secret Garden of Souls," was the inspiration for the wildly successful book by her friend, Thomas Blackwood. She felt completely and utterly lost.

She went to Thomas’s house. She told him that she knew. He was instantly apologetic. He started pleading. She listened, but she didn’t care.

She did something drastic. She convinced Thomas to leave his wife and family. She convinced him that they were meant to be together. She helped him move everything out of his house, and into a small apartment. She set up the place, and helped him settle in. Then, when he was completely dependent on her, she left him.

She went back to her own life. She knew the loss of his family would slowly eat away at him. She knew that the guilt would eventually overwhelm him.
