He hadn't been expecting it. When the notification from Ms. Jones, his chemistry teacher, flashed on the screen, a strange sensation washed over him. He knew Ms. Jones, who found him to be a smart alec and a nuisance. A plan began to take shape.

He started posting on his Instagram account a series of science memes, some with his own snarky twist. He included a photo of a complicated formula, followed by a picture of him looking pleased with himself. He knew she would see.

The next day in class, Ms. Jones seemed unusually quiet. She called on him for answers, which he provided with a flourish. As the bell rang, he made sure to meet her gaze, a small smile playing on his lips. He knew he'd landed his message.
