The phone vibrated against Amelia’s thigh, a jarring tremor in the otherwise quiet cafe. She glanced down, a sardonic smile playing on her lips as she read the new message. “Just saw Mark with some blonde. Thought you’d want to know, lol.” Her thumb hovered over the reply button. He’d hurt her, truly gutted her, and she’d been searching for a way to make him feel *something*. She typed, “Oh really? Interesting. Send me the location.”

A moment later, the address pinged. Amelia stood, her heart now a frantic drum against her ribs. She drained the last of her iced coffee, the sweetness suddenly repulsive, and walked toward the exit, the cafe’s door swinging open to the cool, late-afternoon air. The coordinates pointed to the upscale Italian restaurant where she knew Mark had booked a table for tonight. She hailed a cab, her fingers drumming an impatient rhythm against her purse.
