The news arrived in a dismissive email from Professor Davies. His replacement, a man he'd never even heard of. It was so... callous. Mark's jaw clenched. Davies had promised him a recommendation, a glowing review. Now, gone, leaving him stranded.

He imagined Davies's life, his clean office, his well-fed cats. And the thought of that clean, organized life. He was going to make sure that Davies did not have an easy transition. He had to show him that his actions had consequences.

Mark began drafting his own recommendation letter. It wasn't quite what Davies would expect. It was a letter that would follow Davies.
