The letter lay on Sarah’s desk, the crispness of the aged paper a stark contrast to the chaos of her current situation. Her father, the man who had always been a rock, a pillar of strength, had, it turned out, been a coward. The letter was a confession, of sorts. A plea to be let go before he was fired.

She picked up the phone. She felt a coldness creep through her. The words she spoke were measured, each syllable laced with a deliberate precision. This information would ruin him. And he deserved it.
