The typed letter, perfectly formatted, sat on her desk. Ten years. Ten years since the courtroom, ten years since the world had sided with him. The words, carefully chosen and sanitized, offered little comfort. Only an attempt to make her feel bad for the events of the past.

She read it again, her jaw clenched. They wanted her forgiveness? Wanted her to absolve them of their sins? The very thought of it filled her with a profound, almost physical disgust. She considered tearing it up, but that seemed too easy.

Instead, she rose from her chair and walked over to the filing cabinet, searching for a specific file. She’d kept it, of course. Years of research, years of planning. The document, once found, looked innocuous, but held the power to disrupt everything. She smiled. She knew just what to do.
