Ms. Carter's hands shook as she held the delicate, hand-painted teacup. From Michael, who had ridiculed her in front of the entire class, who had questioned her credentials. It was the perfect shade of blue, and she knew he had chosen it to match her favourite dress. She could almost hear his mocking laughter. She had taught him for so long.

She placed the cup back in the box and tucked it away in the top drawer of her desk.

She spent the afternoon meticulously reviewing Michael's portfolio, searching for any mistakes, any small oversight she could find.

Her own mistakes. Her own frailties, she had to admit, had led to this.

She made a decision. She would not let him get away with it.
