The words on the page blurred, swam before Sophia's eyes. It was Maya's novel, and it was devastatingly accurate. Maya had portrayed her as cold, unfeeling. The protagonist, a mirror image of Sophia, was ultimately left alone, discarded.

Sophia began to meticulously document everything. Every missed phone call, every late arrival, every fleeting moment of inattentiveness. She recorded the details in a small, leather-bound notebook, a tangible record of his failings.

That evening, she casually mentioned to Maya that she thought their new neighbor, a very attractive man, was quite charming. She then spent the next three weeks being "busy". Maya's expressions in the kitchen, making dinner for one, were all the satisfaction Sophia needed.
