The nerve of that woman, Carol, thinking she could just waltz in and ask to use my land! After all the passive-aggressive comments about my dog's droppings, this was just too much. I felt a prickling sensation under my skin.

"Oh, Carol, I'd *love* for you to garden here," I gushed, my voice dripping with forced generosity. "How about the area right next to the compost heap?"

She looked a little taken aback, but eventually agreed, mumbling something about improving the soil. I chuckled to myself later. That area was riddled with underground roots.
