“Look, honey, it’s you!” Her mother beamed, holding up the book. His essay, “The Canvas of Childhood,” was an example of perfect college essay. He felt cold all over.

He forced a smile, but his fingers twitched. He would find the editor’s contact information. He would write a scathing review of the book, highlighting every factual inaccuracy in the introductory notes. He knew a few details that would be particularly damaging.

The thought of causing the author some sort of trouble was very satisfying. The thought alone was enough to bring a smirk to his lips. He started typing.
