He watched the woman, Clara, as she navigated the software, her shoulders stiff, almost hunched. He noticed the way her fingers, usually so quick and precise, now fumbled slightly over the keyboard. She’d been so efficient, so knowledgeable, in the initial interviews. Now, in front of him, she seemed smaller, diminished. “So, this is where you input the sales figures,” she said, her voice barely audible.

The office was unusually silent. He was new, still trying to absorb everything. He wanted to ask more questions, to understand the intricacies, but he hesitated, aware of the heavy atmosphere.

Her eyes flickered towards the window, then away again. He felt as though he was intruding. A wave of empathy washed over him, a sense of guilt he hadn't expected.
