The harsh fluorescent lights of the laundromat hummed, a monotonous soundtrack to Sarah's worries. Each spin of the washing machine felt like another cycle of despair. She was behind on her bills, and the threats from the collection agency had become increasingly aggressive. The shame burned hotter than the iron she had just used.

As she folded her laundry, she noticed a wallet on the floor near a dryer. She hesitated, glancing around the empty space. Then, she opened it. The sight of the money inside stunned her. She felt a lightness, but it was quickly overshadowed by a sense of dread.

Her heart pounded in her chest. She found herself trying to breathe evenly. Her hands grew clammy as she quickly stuffed the wallet into her bag. The thought of what she could do with the money was overwhelming – the rent, the groceries, a moment of peace.
